Apply for Black School's 2020 Leadership & Dialogue Program
Program Mission: Black School is a leading 6-month empowerment program that teaches community, identity, and culture for African American students, ages 12-19, in Los Angeles, California.
Our Process: Black School members learn through a unique, and nationally recognized "dialogue process" started at the University of Michigan that allows students to raise social consciousness, build intra-group bridges, and develop a commitment for social action.
Why Dialogue? The program curriculum uses dialogue to help students have deep and sustained conversations overtime to build connections with themselves and those that share the same social, historical, and cultural identity.
The School's Curriculum trains members in the skills needed to develop their genius and contribute to humanity out of their unique talents as stated by the Black psychologist Na'im Akbar. According to him a true education encourages and empowers people to become influential in the world of ideas."
Time Commitment: We will meet 1 x per month for 3-4 hours on the weekend. *During Black History Month we will meet 2-3 times to celebrate our culture.
